The Tide Flows On

Although the first fifty pages of this book deal with the history of the school from its foundation in 1844 to 1932, it is chiefly a detailed history from 1932 to 2005, a period not covered before in other publications. It explains the difficulties of the depression of the 1930s and the wartime evacuation to Naworth Castle in Cumbria, followed by a steady rise in the school's fortunes after the war. In the late 1970s the school began to admit girls and in the 1990s an International Study Centre was established. The book seeks to give a picture of what life was like in a boarding public school during these years as it gradually evolved to meet the requirements of successive generations.

Published by the Corporation of Rossall School, 2006, in hardback (344pp). Copies available from The Rossallian Club, Rossall School, Fleetwood, FY7 8JW, price £25 p+p.
