Profile of Castletown

Castletown, the former capital of the Isle of Man, grew round the mediaeval Castle Rushen, founded about 1250. It was the residence of the Kings and Lords of Man and their Governors until 1860, and through them the town exercised an important influence on the development of the Island, and its way of life.
