Governors of the Isle of Man since 1765

Between 1765 and 1830 the Island was administered by a Governor on behalf of the sovereign and since 1830 the title has been Lieutenant Governor. This book explains who all the governors have been and what contribution they have made to the Island. It is also partly a constitutional history and traces the steady rise of the governors' authority up to 1945 after which it began to decline increasingly rapidly as most of their executive powers were transferred to Tynwald, the Island's parliament.
