A New History of the Isle of Man

Volume 5

This is a wide-ranging historical study of the Isle of Man from 1830 to 1999 written by several authors and edited by Professor John Belchem of Liverpool University. My contribution is a seventy-page section which describes how the Island developed from an agricultural, fishing and mining community in 1830 to a major holiday resort from the 1880s to the 1980s and how the holiday trade was then overtaken by the spectacular rise of the financial sector.

Published by Liverpool University Press in hardback and paperback (469pp), 2000.
